Question:
KSmith; my pool area is finished in concrete that
is cracked...can this be repaired and an overlay put on top?
Answer:
Tech-101: KSmith, Resurfacing a cracked concrete patio has many variables.
Sedimentary displacement, poor compaction, substrate, improper expansion
joints, concrete mix quality, etc. Cracks can be epoxy injected and then
resurfaced and stamped with a high strength premium water based co-polymer
which will reduce permeability. Before applying a resurfacing admixture be sure
to use a water based co-primer prior to installing the polymer overlay.
Unfortunately, cracks tend to propagate through the new surface in some cases
and is always best to remove the failing concrete and properly prepare the
base, install molecular reinforcement and steel reinforcement then cast your
decorative concrete pool patio in place ....good luck!
